Cardio GPS Tracker & Social Sharing

Go for a run, cycle, walk or hike and share it - NutriMotion tracks it in the background and takes care of everything else.

Cardio GPS Tracker & Social Sharing

NutriMotion now includes a full-featured Cardio GPS tracker that records running, cycling, walking and hiking even when the app is minimised or the display is off. When you end and save a session, calories burned are calculated and added to your nutrition tracker automatically. Plus: share your workouts and routes to social media using clean, generated share cards.

What’s included

  • Cardio GPS tracking - tracking for running, cycling, walking and hiking (distance, pace, duration, route coordinates).
  • Background tracking - continues when the app is minimised or the phone sleeps (once a session has started).
  • Automatic nutrition sync - calories burned in a saved session are added to your daily nutrition totals.
  • Social sharing - generate clean, attractive share cards with stats and route map snapshots for Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook and messenger apps.
  • Privacy controls - choose whether routes are shared with the route travelled on the map or with a custom background.
  • Planned: wearable pairing - see wearable stats on-device and stream run metrics to/from your watch (coming soon).

Cardio GPS: how it works

  1. Open the Cardio tracker from the workout page and choose an activity: Run, Cycle, Walk, Hike.
  2. Tap Start to begin a session. From this moment the tracker records GPS coordinates, distance, pace and elapsed time.
  3. You may minimise the app or let your phone sleep, the session continues to record in the background.
  4. When you finish, tap Stop and then Save. The session is written to your workout logs and the calories burned are automatically calculated and added to your nutrition tracker for that day.

Important: the tracker only continues background recording for sessions that have been started explicitly. Closing the app entirely or revoking background location will stop route capture.

What the tracker records

  • Total distance and duration.
  • Average and current pace.
  • Route polyline (GPS coordinates).
  • Elevation change where available.
  • Calories burned (calculated automatically, using your profile data and session metrics).
  • Optional tags: indoor/outdoor, terrain notes, shoe used, heart-rate source (if paired).

Social sharing: share logs and routes with style

Share your workouts quickly and attractively. No awkward screenshots, no map clutter.

  • Share card generation: when you choose to share a saved session the app builds a clean image with: date/time, activity type, distance, duration, average pace, calories burned, and a small map snapshot of the route.
  • Share options: exact route, or map-free summary card.
  • Export formats: PNG share image with overlayed stats and title.
  • Direct share: tap a social icon to open the native share sheet for quick posting to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, WhatsApp and more.

Nutrition sync

  • When you Save a cardio session the session’s calories burned are automatically added to your daily total in the NutriMotion nutrition tracker.
  • The calculation uses your account profile (weight, height, age, activity type) and session-specific metrics.
  • You can manually edit the calories added in the tracker if required.

Background tracking & permissions

To provide reliable background tracking the app will request the necessary location permissions for your platform. Behaviour details:

  • Android: NutriMotion asks for foreground location and background location where required by the OS. Battery optimisations may still pause long sessions on some devices.
  • iOS: NutriMotion requests the appropriate “allow while using” and background location permissions required to continue route capture when the device locks. For best results enable “Always” location for the app.
  • Battery & OS limits: modern OS battery-savers can suspend background activity. The tracker is designed to be efficient but very long recordings may be affected by aggressive device-specific sleep modes.

Privacy & control

NutriMotion puts control in your hands:

  • Session sharing is optional. You decide per session whether to share.

Planned / upcoming: Wearable pairing

We're building wearable pairing to make your watch an extension of NutriMotion. Planned capabilities include:

  • Pair your wearable to display day-so-far values: remaining calories, steps, and water intake.
  • Live-run metrics on your wearable: current pace, distance and elapsed time.
  • Quick session controls on the watch (start/stop/save).
  • Sync run data captured on the wearable to NutriMotion automatically.

Troubleshooting & tips

  • If routes look incomplete, check that background location permission is granted and that the device’s battery saver is not suspending background activity.
  • For best GPS accuracy keep your watch/phone’s GPS uninterrupted (avoid heavy tree cover, deep urban canyons).
  • If calories seem off, ensure your profile weight and activity settings are accurate. Calories use profile data plus session metrics. If the issue persists please contact us at [email protected]
  • Avoid fully closing and exiting out of the app during a session to avoid any issues. While the exercise tracker is designed to allow you to pick back up from where you left off if this should happen it may not always be able to.

Try it and tell us

Update NutriMotion to start using the Cardio GPS tracker and social sharing. If you hit anything odd (route gaps, background stopping, or share card issues), send feedback to [email protected]

Your workouts should belong to you — record them, review them, and share them intentionally.
